Sueño mexicano /Sueño americano ~ Mexican Dream / American Dream

| The story of my quilt is about the dream of the Mexican who comes illegally to the United States for a better life. We Mexicans are always dreaming of the life in the United States. Why? Many people ask themselves. Because in Mexico it gave me great sadness to see how children had to work to help their families and could not study. The majority of the men come over and bring their children. Perhaps they cannot imagine the danger that it is to cross the border. The Bravo River (Río Grande) has stories of illegals that die while crossing. Women and children are taken away by the river. My quilt demonstrates death in the desert: they die of thirst because the “coyote” abandons them. The little girl died because she was abandoned by the “coyote”. The illegal who succeeds in crossing the border comes to work night and day in order to have a better life and be able to have something for the future of their children. Some illegal people leave their families and children in Mexico. They are working a great deal to send them dollars to maintain their homes and so their children can attend school and have a better life. It is an American Dream because our dreams come true. The United States has given us a good future for our children to live better. |
La historia de mi colcha es del sueño del mexicano quien viene ilegalmente a los Estados Unidos por una vida mejor. En Mexico, siempre estamos soñando con aquella vida en los Estados Unidos. ¿Por qué? se preguntan muchas personas. Porque en México me daba mucha tristeza mirar a los niños como tenían que trabajar para ayudar a sus padres y no podían estudiar. La mayoría de los hombres se vienen y se traen a sus hijos. Quizás no pueden imaginar el peligro que es cruzar la frontera. El Río Bravo (Río Grande) tiene historias de ilegales que mueren cruzándolo. Niños y mujeres se los lleva el río. Mi colcha muestra la muerte en el desierto: mueren de sed o porque el “coyote” los abandona. La niña que se murió en el desierto porque la abandonó el “coyote”. El ilegal que logra pasar la frontera viene a trabajar de día y de noche para poder tener una vida mejor, poder tener algo para el futuro de sus hijos. Algunas personas ilegales dejan a su familia y a sus hijos en México. Ellos trabajan mucho para mandarles dólares para mantener su casa y para que sus hijos estudien, y tengan una vida mejor. El sueño americano es porque nuestros sueños se hacen realidad porque Estados Unidos nos ha dado trabajo y un buen futuro para nuestros hijos y para vivir mejor. |
