El regalo del chamán ~ The Shaman’s Gift

| My sister is a butterfly midwife. That means that for a hobby, she raises one particular type of California butterfly whose habitat area is being eradicated by rapid overdevelopment. She also teaches about the butterfly and encourages interested people to grow the one special plant on which it spends its whole life. Thus, by having this specialized plant available throughout a wider region, the butterfly can find food and shelter in new areas. One day, her friend Elsa attended a big conference about many types of environmental situations around the world. During a break, she was out on the patio talking with friends and meeting new people who had come a great distance to attend. One man to whom she was introduced was an Indian shaman from a remote mountain village in Mexico. The shaman didn’t say much or ask any questions, but upon meeting Elsa he acted as though he had been waiting to meet her. He then opened up his pouch and handed her a beaded necklace with the design of a butterfly beautifully worked into the front of the necklace. Elsa asked, “What is this?” He said to Elsa, “You have a friend who helps butterflies. The butterflies told me about her while I was home in Mexico, so I made this necklace for her. Please give this to her and say the butterflies thank her for her help.” |
Mi hermana es una comadrona de mariposas. Eso significa que para su pasatiempo ella cría un tipo particular de mariposa de California cuyo hábitat está en peligro a causa del desarrollo excesivo y rápido. Ella también enseña clases sobre la mariposa y anima a las personas interesadas a sembrar la única planta especial en la que la mariposa permanece toda la vida. Así, al tener esta planta especializada disponible en una región más amplia, la mariposa puede encontrar alimento y refugio en áreas nuevas. El chaman no decía mucho, ni preguntaba nada pero, al conocerla a Elsa, tal parecía como si él había estado esperando conocerla.
